Secret Cinema crashes the internet trying to recreate the town of Hill Valley for Back to the Future special event

Great Scott!

Secret Cinema, the organisers of large-scale immersive film events, are launching another limited run non-secret special event, following on from their success with their The Grand Budapest Hotel season. This summer, the aim is nothing less than to recreate the fictional town of Hill Valley from Robert Zemeckis's cult classic Back the Future  in an undisclosed London location.

Hill Valley appears in the film in both the time periods of 1985 and 1955, as main character Marty McFly time jumps between the two via a souped-up DeLorean car created by Doctor Emmett Brown. Audiences won't be stuck with just one of those time periods though- they will be able to travel between both during the event via 'secret' passageways. Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall said: "We will build an entire town, where audiences will live inside the world of Back To The Future. We will play heavily on the innocent dream-like Americana world of 1955 and the nostalgic pre-mobile phone world of 1985."

Secret Cinema suffered a hiccup though when first putting the event on sale on the afternoon of June 4th, as huge demand crashed their ticket provider's server. The sale was put on hold and relaunched successfully on June 5th, with most dates sold out at time of writing.
