British actor Bob Hoskins dies at 71

The media is full of obituaries and 'top tens' following the sad news that actor Bob Hoskins died of pneumonia this week. For what it's worth, my eight-year old self has just reminded me that he will always be former detective Eddie Valiant to me in Who Framed Roger Rabbit...

But then there is Mona Lisa, The Long Good Friday, Felicia's Journey... I could be here all night, but I'll let these links show you the way. FYI the last thing I saw Hoskins in was Dennis Potter's musical drama Pennies From Heaven, originally produced in 1978, where he played Arthur, a travelling sheet music salesman in an unhappy marriage with his wife, Joan (Gemma Craven). I had to watch it for my Film History MA. I'm glad I did- it was one of his breakthrough roles.
