As part of the UK-wide September Scalarama celebration of cinema and Uprising: Spirit of ‘68, Screen25 brings you The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975.

An intimate insight into iconic figures of the Civil Rights Movement, this documentary of found footage shot by Swedish journalists is a remarkable archive of interviews with revolutionaries such as Black Panther founders Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton, and activist and author Angela Davis.

Including commentary from contemporary public figures such as Questlove and Erykah Badu, The Black Power Mixtape is essential and provoking viewing for those looking for a fresh, never before seen snapshot of the period.

For those excited by this summer’s Spike Lee biographical crime thriller, BlacKkKlansman, this is a wonderfully contextualising look at the era, and will certainly be a fantastic precursor to the film.
