The Regent Street Cinema's jazz double: Jazz on a Summer's Day and Miles Ahead (30-31 May)

The Regent Street Cinema pairs up two films, one old, one new, that dabble in Jazz. You can also read the Smoke Screen review of Miles Ahead, the new film directed by and starring Don Cheadle, here.

May 30th and 31st, tickets and details here.

Jazz on a Summer’s Day

An incredible collection of classic live performances, Jazz on a Summer’s Day captures Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Chuck Berry, Mahalia Jackson, and many others performing at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival.

Miles Ahead

Don Cheadle goes to town in this long-gestating passion project – an alternative biopic of the trumpeter Miles Davis. Writing, directing and committing hard to his performance, Cheadle eschews the traditional biopic format, instead spinning Davis’ life out from the hub of a fictionalised story about a high-value session tape.

The Tuesday screening will be introduced by jazz specialist, international musician and critic Professor Jonathan Stockdale
