The fourth Camberwell Free Film Festival starts this Thursday 31 March, with 11 days of free film events across London SE5. Every event free, no ticket needed, and the mix of screenings is superb, ranging from recent releases, cult flicks and curios that explore the capital. The festival venues also reflect the diversity of the area: including cafes, pubs, civic spaces and landmark architectural venues around SE5.
Thursday 31 March - GOOD VIBRATIONS, at the Joiners Arms. Feel-good biopic of record-store owner and music promoter Terri Hooley who was instrumental in developing Belfast’s punk-rock scene in the 1970s.
Friday1 April – ROCKS IN MY POCKET, at the Institute of Psychiatry. Deeply personal and humorous animated film about the effects of depression.
Saturday 2 April - SONG OF THE SEA at Camberwell Library. Animation about a young Irish boy and his little sister, who is able to transform herself into a seal.
Saturday 2 April - WILD TALES, at The Cambria. Six darkly humourous tales from Argentina.
Sunday 3 April - PANTANI: ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF A CYCLIST, at Cycle PS. Documentary about Marco Pantani, the most flamboyant and popular cyclist of his era.
Sunday 3 April - A PIGEON SAT ON A BRANCH REFLECTING ON EXISTENCE, at the Pigeon Hole Cafe.
Monday 4 April - THE FALLING, at the Crooked Well. Haunting tale of mass hysteria in a strict English girls’ grammar school in the 1960s.
Tuesday 5 April – 45 YEARS, at Camberwell Arms. A couple about to celebrate their forty-fifth wedding anniversary receive shattering news.
Wednesday 6 April – CARNIVAL OF SOULS. Join us for the first of two nights at Jazz Live at the Crypt.
Thursday 7 April - A GIRLS WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT, at Jazz Live at the Crypt. The townsfolk of an Iranian ghost-city are being stalked by a lonesome vampire.
Friday 8 April - ANOTHER SUNDAY AND SWEET FA + FRAKTUS. Anglo-German double bill at Dulwich Hamlet Football Club.
