Directed by, written by and starring a bevy of top British talent (plus Meryl Streep) in a dramatisation of the British women's rights movement, Suffragette is an unashamedly message-driven film that headed up this year's London Film Festival.
Tying in with the film's cinema run, Bechdel Test Fest will host a special screening of Suffragette with Q&A discussion ‘Votes For Women’.
Women make up around 50% of the population and over 50% of the cinema-going audience. How do we get our stories to represent 50% of those on screen why has it taken so long for the important story of Suffragette to be made into a film?
Panellists: Faye Ward (Suffragette Producer), Helen Pankhurst (Suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst’s great-granddaughter), Sophie Mayer – film journalist (Sight & Sound and The F-Word), member of film collective Club des Femmes and lecturer in film at LCC and Queen Mary University.
Hosted by Corrina Antrobus – director of Bechdel Test Fest.
Proud to be part of THE TIME IS NOW – a UK-wide film project, launching Oct 15, celebrating women forcing change, curated and produced by Showroom Workstation and Film Hub North in partnership with Pathé and Twentieth Century Fox.
