Pine Ridge, dir. Anna Eborn, Denmark 2013, 76 mins
Documentary champions DocHouse bring another screening focusing on present-day fault lines in US culture this July. Earlier we had Who Is Dayani Cristal, which traced the journey of one Honduran immigrant struggling to reach the US and a hoped-for more prosperous life.
Pine Ridge by director Anna Eborn turns the camera on to the Oglala Lakota people of South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation, site of the infamous site of the infamous massacre at Wounded Knee. The film is built around a series of intimate portraits of the younger generation of the tribe who struggle with being ghettoised from society and also from their roots.
